12 May 2011 Frodsham Marsh SJ4978 Larval 1+ 'uncountable numbers' of larvae present, guesstimated 350,000, based on an percieved density of 1,000 per linear metre over a length of some 350 metres. This is probably an underestimate. They were hanging in bunches, plum-sized 'balls' of larvae, and thousands were descending to the ground in processions down the same threads. Many of the Spindle were stripped down to the twigs and branches, and the grass along the lane was also looking like driven snow too. Amazing sight.

08 Sep 2009 Frodsham Marsh SJ5078 Adult 519 SJ505785, on top road of No 6 tank count 519 adult spindle ermines along sides of track - mostly in elderberry bushes, on grass or other vegetation only in areas close to but not on the spindle trees which on edge of tank are more exposed to southerly wind than the more sheltered areas frequented by the moths. In reality must be thousands of ermines here
